MYOSTEOPATHY

What to expect at
your appointment

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of healthcare that focuses on how the body’s structure and function work together. Osteopaths are trained to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions using manual techniques, alongside clinical reasoning and evidence-informed care.

What To Expect

Your appointment begins with a detailed discussion about your symptoms, health history, and goals. This is followed by a physical assessment to understand how your body is moving and contributing to your concern. Treatment may involve hands-on techniques where appropriate, as well as guidance on exercises, movement strategies, and lifestyle factors that may support your recovery. Care is individualised, collaborative, and aimed at helping you better understand and manage your condition.

Consultation

Every appointment follows a clear, structured process, starting with a conversation about what brought you in, your relevant health history, previous treatments, imaging or referrals, and your goals. We’ll discuss possible outcomes, benefits, risks, and alternatives for each part of the consultation, and you always have the option to opt out of anything you’re not comfortable with. Together, we set short-term goals, such as reducing pain, improving mobility, or returning to daily activities, and explore long-term lifestyle goals, tailored to what matters most to you.

Assessment

Assessment comprises of functional movements, orthopaedic/special and capacity testing, and if required, targeted neurological or medical/vital signs checks as appropriate. This helps me understand your movement, strength, and limitations, while also screening for any red flags or conditions requiring referral. Every assessment is conducted with care, aiming to minimise risk, and aligning with your goals and comfort.

Treatment

Treatment is based on your assessment findings, your preferences, and ultimately what you feel comfortable with. Every technique is explained in terms of benefits, risks, and alternatives, and you can pause or stop at any time. The focus is on addressing assessment findings, helping you move better, reduce discomfort, and support recovery; using evidence-informed methods tailored to you.

Management + Self Care

Your ongoing plan is guided by how you respond to treatment. I provide targeted home exercises and self-management strategies using an App called Physitrack, which gives clear instructions, videos, and real-time feedback. Follow-up appointments may be suggested to progress exercises, manage pain, and build capacity. Ultimately, the goal is to empower you to take control of your recovery, giving you the tools to stay active, capable, and confident in your body.
